I’ve had a lovely time in a wonderful part of the world and slept like a log!  Everybody has been so pleasant.

Well we have been here since Monday and I cant believe it is time to get out the passports and head back to England. The company, food, and accommodation have been second to none. The new found knowledge that I am taking home is certainly going to be put to good use and much use of time. We will certainly be back if only to be able to relax again with good food & wine. Great Beaches, Great Tea Rooms, & Great Fun.

We will be back to recharge

“a knitting retreat!”

“ha ha ha ha ha “

That was the response when I was talking to family & friends about these few days, little did they know what they have missed.

There have been no airs and graces, everyone no matter the skill level has been treated alike.

Louise’s patience has been amazing! I have learned some fascinating new skills and will be taking home some ‘beautiful’ new projects.

My room was wonderful,- warm, welcoming & cosy…….slept through the night for the first time in a while – thank – you.

Food! Well fed with lovely meals   :0)

Thank – you for allowing me to be me. I would certainly do another retreat here!

Hi Louise,

We had such a brilliant time and would like to come back next year with a couple of our friends. We would like to come from Mon 7th Sept and go home on the Friday. We would really like to stay at the house and Jo and I would share a room. I know this isn’t a date you had on your web site as running a retreat but is there any chance? If there was I think we would want to If possible come up with our own itinerary.
Hope you are well and your mum fully recovered.
Best wishes

Received October 2014 –

Hi Louise

Just to say how much I enjoyed the knitting retreat last week. I learnt a lot and it was fun meeting the others and of course yourself. The hotel was a successful venue, especially being able to use that magnificent room, and the food was excellent.
Having such close access to the Abbey was an added bonus, and the mill trip very interesting. I’m glad the teaching was in the morning only.
I managed to convey Susan and Olive safely to the airport and drop them off, after which I stopped at Sainsbury’s in Stirling for refreshments and a little shopping.

I hope I’ll be able to come to another one in the future.

Many thanks

October 2014, Dryburgh Abbey Retreat

Dear Louise and Trudi;

Have had the most wonderful time (even better than I had wished for) It was completely what I needed, relaxing, amazing food & company, & I’ve learn’t so many new things ( including Louises’ continental knitting knitting methods!) I am soooooo happy I came; already planning the next one-!-Met a kindred spirit and made new friends for life.

Sue xxxx    April 2014

I came not really knowing quite what to expect – having been given this knitting retreat as an incredibly generous gift by some very dear friends who stayed here on B & B last year……. I am buzzing with ideas, sore laughing muscles, sense of achievement  in the wee projects we did – as well as tips and wool for bigger ones to come. Louise and Trudi made us so at home, filled our heads with inspiration & our stomachs with delicious food – we even made our own continental cast on training video clip!! Wink Sleep, fresh air, wonderful scenery & running routes and total relaxation thrown in. What could be better?Just more hours/days to knit!! Thank you both – (and looking for that Woolfishers Cookbook too, Trudi) Thank you so much (& to dear Emma who made it possible!) Alison xx         April 2014

“Thank you so much for such a brilly retreat. I have learnt loads, met some lovely people + have got a bit of knitting done. You are so talented and artistic, I am in awe of such greatness! I am really chuffed with the things I have made, especially the phone cosy + the bracelet. I would never have thought to try such things, or indeed thought that I was capable of doing them as with the knitted wire bracelet. The cast ons + continental knitting will be much used going forward.”

Love Susie xx Oct 2013

“Have been so looking forward to the knitting retreat and recharging my batteries! I learned lots but the most useful techniques were the different ‘cast ons’. We had good food, fun and plenty of time to knit and chat. I have already booked to come in March ’14 and I think that says it all. Thank you for a relaxing stay – again!”

Love Denise Oct 2013

“Dear Louise, Thank you so much for a wonderful time, I have so looked forward to this break with Janet and the retreat lived up to all my expectations and more. I appreciate all the “treats” you provided particularly the damsons/plumbs!! Recipe on its way. Looking forward to next year already.”

It was great to get away to such a lovely part of the country and spend time with such nice people and to get inspiration as a fairly new knitter. Thanks for a great time Louise, next time we could do with an extra day so we can go to the craft market in St Abbs. Looking forward to making more bracelets.”

“I have had such a lovely time – knitting, eating, drinking (!), chatting + so much laughing. I can’t remember laughing so much…… Thank you Louise, it has been great! Looking forward to Sept 2014 + meeting all my new friends again.”

With much love Janet Sept 2013

“I’m a bit speechless in what to write. Previous messages has said it all, wonderful, relaxing, much laughter & giggles. Glorious food and Louise’s cooking is all you need to get a rested soul. New friendships. Location + good weather was a bonus. Can’t wait until next year!”

Lots of love Karin xx Sept 2013

“Here is a note from a townie! I could be converted to countryside after being here for 3 days. I may even have cured my insomnia, I slept very well indeed. Woke up to an amazing sunrise this morning. I loved spending time with yarnie people and boy did we all giggle about everything. I finally mastered some elements of continental knitting after trying without success previously. The scenery is breathtaking & unspoiled. Just divine. Louise is all things lovely. BTW – ask about the ‘magic knot’.”

“Thank you both for the happy Memories, fun, singing & even knitting !! Demis Roussos – eat your heart out.”

“Asked to comment, I can only (for me) paraphrase Lady Bracknell v12 ” The Knit is immaterial”! But she would undoubtedly agree a Woolfish Retreat provides the line which connects with the old style hospitality, laughter amid new friends, and akk stations to Amazing Grace! This is a unique journey and was much enjoyed ( particularly the wild salmon, the porridge, the home made still warm soda bread with farm butter + local black current conserve. Yum!) All thanks to Louise and daughter Trudi. A return ticket is required! Meantime, I shall practice the Continental. Blessing upon you and your house.”

Jean May 2013

“A perfect few days for both Andrew and I. We enjoyed a few days both enjoying our passions – me knitting and Andrew fishing. Louise and Trudi are wonderful hosts – they both go above and beyond both in B&B and knitting workshops. The fellowship of the group was marvellous – friends for life. we have not laughed SO much in a very long time. In Donna’s words it was truly #yarntastic. See you again soon.”

“Dear Louise, I have been ‘cut off’ from the outside world since Sunday and returned home today (wed) refreshed. It seemed such a long way to come – west coast to east – but the visit has lived up to expectations. Walking, talking, eating, drinking and comfortable silence! I leave with three major knitting projects, confident I can complete them using your techniques and tips. I leave with all good wishes to you, Trudi and Nathan.”

Good luck with the show Denise Nov  2010

“Knitters Heaven! I drove through a ‘time warp’ when I came off the A1 and entered a different world. Very relaxing. Learned some new techniques and will leave with a boot load of wool.Enough to keep me occupied for months to come.”

Allison 2010

“Louise, ab fab time. You are a wonderful hostess and the food has been amazing and    well   porridge is never going to be the same again.  I am so grateful for all the laughs which made early learning so much fun and I can’t believe how much I have managed to learn. I love continental knitting now, thanks again. I am sad to go home, this group of yarn lovers have become a well oiled group (wine aided and whiskey aided). You should definitely do more retreats. my fellow retreaters, you are wonderful women and thank you for making this such fun.”

Sandy 2009

“Louise, I am converted, porridge with whiskey is much better than porridge and grapes, everything you provided, knitting instructions, knitting hints, ideas. The food & accommodation cant be bettered.and how you have the patience to put up so many people (new friends) on the correct road, and understanding what a retreat is all about. You are brilliant. I will keep up continental knitting. Thankyou again for making me welcome.”

Joy 2009

“How wonderful to come away and spend time together knitting, talking, eating good food in such a great place. I have found it refreshing and reviving – even if we talked into the small hours. I felt so at home staying with you and enjoyed all the lovely touches especially the home-baking and the single malt porridge! Jenny 2009

“Louise, What a great few days. I’ve learned so much – explained clearly and slowly- thank you.  Eaten so well – the scones are wonderful. I also laughed ’till I cried. Also made like minded friends willing to share their expertise and experiences.  Definitely not to be missed and definitely to be repeated.”

Sarah June 2009

“Hi Louise
I just wanted to say thank you again for the wonderful knit retreat last weekend. Your hospitality and cooking was fantastic and I left feeling relaxed, refreshed and inspired. It was lovely to meet up with everyone and to share their enjoyment and passion for knitting (and life in general) and to pick up some new ideas. Being able to go for a walk along the stunning cliff tops was an added bonus and I will definitely visit again.”

“I am a ‘regular’ stalker of your shop and managed to come to your Woolfest held at Coldstream end of August. I was so impressed with it that I managed to persuade my local knit and natter group to help me hold one here in our village – mind you they didn’t need much persuading after I enthused about your event and showed them the photos…….

I have visited your shop on many occasions (every time we come up on holiday – you are on our visit list) and I have popped by on your blog from time to time, so I just wanted to say…seeing you regularly bring a bit of sunshine to my life, I have awarded you a deserving ’sunshine award’ hope it brings a smile to your day”

“Arrived home earlier refreshed and relaxed.
Thank you so much for a wonderfully, varied three days. From wonderful food and good company to knitting and learning new tips and techniques, it was heavenly.”

Regards June

“Hello Trudi
My parcel just arrived – very exciting now I can “hole up” for the bad weather!
All safe and sound, thank you.”

“Firstly wanted to say that I love your site – beautiful stuff! I came across it last night on ‘style eye’ blog whilst doing research for my own new fashion knitwear blog.”

Just wanted to send you a thank you.
We visited your fab shop earlier this week whilst on holiday, you showed my 9 year old son how to arm knit.
Well there is no stopping him now, as soon as we got back to our holiday home he knitted a full scarf with only help in casting on and off.
Back at home he has knitted another scarf for his grandma, he now thinks he’s going into business!! I will let you know when he makes his first million.
Thank you for keeping knitting alive and exciting!!”

Kind Regards

“Dear Louise
Just to let you know after your kind phone call to sort me out that I finished my jacket that week and have been wearing it ever since as it is beautifully warm and practical in the car and I can get lots of layers underneath. So thank you very much. I wore it up town when I met a friend for a shopping day out and it was just right on the tube and around the exhibition and I know she has since bought the wool from you and it busily making one for herself.
Have just finished the back on my long waistcoat as I haven’t had time to do much knitting in recent weeks but it looks great so far and hopefully I will be wearing it by Christmas. Look forward to catching up with you at next year’s Knitting and Stitching Show if I can wait that long (it’s a bit addictive)!”

“Thank you for the e-mail; As a novice to knitting thank you for explaining it to me and it does make sense now.
I was really impress with your display and the care and attention you gave to all those who came to your stand.
I am looking forward to use the knitting pins now.”

Thank you once again.
